A Summer Not to Miss

We’ve had a very busy summer so far. I can’t believe it’s the middle of August already. We moved into our house last month and we finally got our last box delivered last week. There is still a lot we need to do, but for the most part we are settled in. So far, we are loving our new house and new neighborhood!! And Trey is finally in his own room for the first time since April.

I’ve attached some random pictures from the last month. Most of them are from our vacation to Virginia Beach. We went here with my family and the Tepe’s. If you are looking for a new beach to visit, I’d highly recommend Virginia Beach. There is a great boardwalk up the coast that you can walk or bike. It is lined with restaurants, shops and street performers. We had a great time on the trip and Trey loved every minute of it. Of course, he loves the attention. And he would stay in water 24 hours a day if we let him. He did try to eat a few handfuls of sand, but other than that he was very happy in the ocean.

Overall, Trey’s summer has been so great that he’s afraid to miss a minute of it. He wants to be in the action all the time, to the point that he falls asleep while swimming or playing with the kids. He fights to keep his eyes open until he just can’t help it.

As you can see, us being in Cincinnati has been great for Trey. He loves all the attention and Ed and I love all the support. Even though I hate leaving every morning, I leave knowing that he’s going to have fun with whoever is watching him that day. And he’s learning new tricks all the time. He can roll over to his side and he can get in the crawling position, but he’s not really going anywhere yet. It’s still up in the air whether he’s going to skip crawling and go straight to walking. He hates being on his stomach and gets onto his feet whenever possible.

Other updates in our life: We are getting closer to moving into our new house. Our closing is set for June 29th and the movers come on July 1st. And we’ve also set a tentative Baptism date for Trey at St. Francis Seraph on August 14th. We still need to work out the details but we will probably have a party at our new house afterwards. Everyone is welcome to come, it will be very casual.

One Lucky Baby – No Daycare Needed

One thing I came to realize quickly after Trey was born was that I was not going to be able to put him into daycare as easily as I had thought. When I was pregnant, Ed and I choose a daycare in Denver and even paid the deposit to reserve his spot. It was a very nice, safe, Montessori school one block from my work. But when the time came to bring him there, I just couldn’t do it.

Luckily, Doni offered to stay with us my first week back to work to help us avoid daycare. And even leaving Trey with her for a couple hours a day was hard for me. I knew Doni would be taking better care of Trey than I even do. And Trey loved being with Doni. But being away for the first time was miserable for me!

I was able to work from home my last couple weeks in Denver which let us skip the daycare scenario altogether. And now that we are back in Cincinnati, my mom and Ed’s mom are watching Trey for us during the week. Judging by how happy he is, I think he loves this set-up. He literally smiles ALL the time. Having Trey grow up being close to both of our families is priceless. Plus they get to enjoy the little guy as much as us now!

Our Final Days In Denver

The last month has flown by because we’ve been busy – selling a house, buying a house, packing and saying our good-byes. Our friends hosted a party in Wash Park on Sunday, so we could enjoy one final party with all of our friends. It was great seeing everyone again and we are going to miss all of our friends here.

We’ve been away from Cincinnati for 8 years and I couldn’t be more excited to move back! I’ve loved all the experiences Ed and I have had both in Denver and Kansas City and I wouldn’t trade the last 8 years for anything. But, I’m ready to be back in Cincinnati with our family and friends. I want Trey to be as close to our families as we are and that won’t happen if we are 1,200 miles away.

Our final journey home starts tomorrow. We are going to stretch out the drive home over four days in attempt to make the car time tolerable for Trey. I’m looking forward to our stop in Kansas City on Friday because we are going to visit with Doni and her family and some of our friends from KC.

“With every ending there’s a new beginning.”

With exactly one month until we leave Denver, the phrase “with every ending there’s a new beginning” keeps going through my head. This is true with so many aspects of our life right now.
The day Trey was born was both the greatest day of my life and at the same time one of the worst. Minutes before Trey came into the world, my family was at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati saying their goodbyes to my cousin Patrick. Patrick had fought cystic fibrosis his entire life and on January 9th, at the age of 21, his battle ended. These two unforgettable events took place within minutes of each other. I’ll never forget the moment that I heard the news. If anyone ever had an angel, I believe that Patrick is Trey’s. Trey may never get to meet Patrick, but he will always be a part of his life. Patrick was as tough as he was sweet and no matter how bad things got he always had a smile to give.

Paff’s Visit

Ed’s family came out to visit us two weekends ago. We had a great weekend with them plus a few bonus days due to the crazy weather that has been passing through the country. They were supposed to fly out on Monday but they weren’t able to get out until Thursday afternoon after four or five cancelled flights.

We started out the weekend by spending Thursday afternoon and evening hanging out at our house while everyone took turns holding Trey. He loved this of course! Then Friday, Ed, his dad, Tim and Melissa all went to a beer festival with our friends, Rob and Ryan.

We spent Saturday enjoying the gorgeous weather (65+ degrees!) by going on a hike and walking around Pearl Street in Boulder. Sunday we walked around downtown Denver and stopped in a couple local bars and restaurants. At one point in the day I found myself nursing Trey on a couch in a club in LoDo (something I NEVER would have agreed to two months ago. But a screaming, hungry infant makes you do things you’ve never done before.)

Since Ed’s family got to spend bonus days in Denver, we were all able to go to one of Ed’s hockey games. I think we all enjoyed seeing him play even though Trey decided to nap through most of the game.

Ed and I loved having his family in town with us and we were sad to have them leave. I’ve attached some of my favorite pictures from the weekend. Thank you Claire for taking all the great shots!

Grandparent’s Visits

Two weekends in a row we are having our parents visit. Last weekend my parents came out and Ed’s parents arrive today.

We had a great time with my parents and Nick. We visited the aquarium (something Ed has wanted to do since we moved here), hung out at the pool at their hotel, took a walk to the park and FINALLY visited the original Chipotle (something Nick has talked about for quite a while). We were busy all weekend but my favorite part was just hanging out at our house. Ed cooked us a great dinner one night and we took turns passing Trey around.

It was hard to say goodbye at the end of the weekend. Having my parents in town made me realize how thankful I am that we are moving back home in a few months. There’s nothing like having family around to enjoy special times like these.
