One Year Check-Up

Last Friday was Trey’s one year old check-up at the doctor office. Here are his latest stats:

  • Weight: 23 pounds. Down to 50th percentile from 70th. This is likely due to his high levels of activity.
  • Height: 30 inches. 60th percentile still.
  • Head: 48 centimeters. 90th percentile still.

My mom provided my own stats at the same age. Turns out I was a fatty! 26 pounds 13 ounces and 31 3/4 inches tall. She didn’t have head measurements. I’m not sure if they didn’t track that back in the day or if the information wasn’t provided to her. Either way, I’m sure Trey’s head was bigger than mine.

Happy Birthday Trey!

I truly can’t believe that this day is here already, Trey’s first birthday. The last year has flown by and our little man has changed so much. Before we know it he will be ready for all sorts of big kid things, such as school and sports. We have to remember to continue to take full advantage of every moment with him.

To celebrate the occasion we threw a party for our families Saturday afternoon at our house. Being the only grandchild for both families, he continues to be spoiled with much love and many gifts. My mom was on hand to take a ton of photos for us, which can be seen below. Happy birthday buddy!

First Haircut / First Santa Visit

The list of Trey’s firsts continues to grow. Last night he was treated to his first haircut. Kim made an appointment at Kids Kuts in the Hyde Park Shopping Center. I missed the first couple snips but arrived to find Kim and Trey still sitting in the chair getting more hair chopped off.

Trey did really well and sat in Kim’s lap the whole time without throwing too many things. The toys that they had available really  helped, and of course he really liked the one that was the most awkward to hold up for him. The stylist did a great job with our little moving target. Trey really looks like a kid now that he has a fancy haircut.

And if you haven’t already seen the photo on my blog, Trey had his first picture with Santa this past weekend. We were at a Cyclones game and heard on the loudspeaker that Santa was in the arena and taking photos. I walked over and tried to get Trey’s picture with just him and Santa, but he freaked out once I let go of him. Instead of trying again, I just got in the picture with him.

Trey’s First Halloween

Trey tolerated his tiger costume while we sat outside with my family to pass out candy to the neighborhood kids. We didn’t take him around to collect candy, which was a good idea since we ended up with a ton of leftover candy. Next year I’m only getting one bag.

Nine Month Check-Up

We had Trey’s nine month check-up today. He is growing very well based on these measurements:

  • Weight: 22 pounds 8 ounces. 70th percentile. He started at 50, went up to 60 by 2 months, and now up to 70.
  • Height: 28.5 inches. 60th percentile. Started at 30 at two weeks and has stayed around 60 since.
  • Head: 47 centimeters. 90th percentile. Started at 45, then up to 50, but has really grown a lot recently.

The doctor was also happy to hear that he was walking already, and he was even showing off for her and the nurse. She had some new tips for us that she doesn’t usually give until 15 months, so that we can make sure our house is as baby proof as possible. One thing she said that he will likely figure out how to break into most things, so we have to make sure all of those little batteries are out of reach.

For those that haven’t seen Trey walking in person, Kim captured a video of him the other night.

She also recorded another video of Trey showing off his new dance skills. I’m not sure where he learned this, but he will also do this sometimes when you tell him, “No.”

Trey’s Baptism Day

We’ve had a full schedule since Kim’s last blog entry. We are quickly remembering how busy summers in Cincinnati can be with so many family and friends locally. The last month has been filled with many firsts for Trey, including his first Pig-Fest and Bearcat football game. He has also become very mobile using his own style of crawling and he has even started taking his first steps! I hope to get videos of his big moments online soon.

We also had Trey baptized at St. Francis Seraph, the same church that Kim and I were married over three years ago. Overall it went really well and the congregation has welcomed him in with lots of loving arms. Below are photos from the day that my mother took. It’s also worth mentioning that she has a ton of other pictures of Trey on her flickr page.

A Summer Not to Miss

We’ve had a very busy summer so far. I can’t believe it’s the middle of August already. We moved into our house last month and we finally got our last box delivered last week. There is still a lot we need to do, but for the most part we are settled in. So far, we are loving our new house and new neighborhood!! And Trey is finally in his own room for the first time since April.

I’ve attached some random pictures from the last month. Most of them are from our vacation to Virginia Beach. We went here with my family and the Tepe’s. If you are looking for a new beach to visit, I’d highly recommend Virginia Beach. There is a great boardwalk up the coast that you can walk or bike. It is lined with restaurants, shops and street performers. We had a great time on the trip and Trey loved every minute of it. Of course, he loves the attention. And he would stay in water 24 hours a day if we let him. He did try to eat a few handfuls of sand, but other than that he was very happy in the ocean.

Overall, Trey’s summer has been so great that he’s afraid to miss a minute of it. He wants to be in the action all the time, to the point that he falls asleep while swimming or playing with the kids. He fights to keep his eyes open until he just can’t help it.

Dave Matthews Band Caravan

Kim and I took Trey up to Chicago this past weekend for the Dave Matthews Band Caravan. Music is a very big part of my life and I hope to expose Trey to as much as realistically possible. Since it was in an outside setting we were able to bring enough stuff to keep him busy and still have some fun with our friends at the same time. He really seemed to enjoy it for the most part even though he only heard a couple of DMB songs. He slept through the entire set on Friday night, and then left with mom early the second two nights. However he stayed awake for a wide variety of bands throughout the weekend. I hope we can do something like this again in the future.

Trey Loves Swimming

Trey has been in pools many times since our first experience on our trip back to Cincinnati. Both of our parents have pools at their houses that he has enjoyed, in addition to the baby pools at each house. He has even spent some time in the Hais’ hot tub which is currently set to around body temperature. As much as he enjoys being held in any of these pools or lounging in his raft, he really loves being in this dishpan with all of his toys, sitting up on his own.

Looking for a smile?

If you want something to make you smile – check out these videos that Claire took of Trey yesterday. You can’t get much happier than this!

As you can see, us being in Cincinnati has been great for Trey. He loves all the attention and Ed and I love all the support. Even though I hate leaving every morning, I leave knowing that he’s going to have fun with whoever is watching him that day.  And he’s learning new tricks all the time.  He can roll over to his side and he can get in the crawling position, but he’s not really going anywhere yet.  It’s still up in the air whether he’s going to skip crawling and go straight to walking.  He hates being on his stomach and gets onto his feet whenever possible.

Other updates in our life:  We are getting closer to moving into our new house. Our closing is set for June 29th and the movers come on July 1st.  And we’ve also set a tentative Baptism date for Trey at St. Francis Seraph on August 14th.  We still need to work out the details but we will probably have a party at our new house afterwards.  Everyone is welcome to come, it will be very casual.
