Lately Kim has been soliciting advice from many of her female friends, family, and coworkers who have kids. She is asking them what items they couldn’t live without when starting to raise a child. The response has been great so far, with lots of advice ranging from strollers, car-seats, and furniture all the way to toys, playpens, and even nursing supplies. While some of this has been really interesting to me, especially the stroller and toys, I can’t help but wonder if there are some items that the moms are missing from their lists. What items do dads find necessary for raising children? With few friends having kids of their own, I’m forced to rely on the wisdom of the Internet.

a DVR is necessary : D and a good camera to catch all the awesome memories you will soon have. You don’t really need a video camera since I know you have an iPhone … that is all I ever use for videos since it is always with me. I am sure for you guys, you will need a baby backpack thing to take the baby hiking with you : D … you can always do what Joanna did and use the sleepy wrap
Thanks Corey. We’ve already got the DVR and camera covered. My Canon XTi is getting old but should still work great. I was thinking about a video camera at one time, and I guess now would be that time to get one. You are right that my iPhone will probably catch most video, though having better quality might be nice. I hadn’t thought about hiking yet, but that’s a good point. I told Kim about the sleepy wrap the other day. We may end up with one too.
skates, shin pads, pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, helmet and stick, oh and lots of white tape š
I’d love for all of that stuff to become necessary. Time will tell, I suppose. One guy on my team has a kid with zero interest in hockey even though the dad plays a couple times a week and refs too.
So our friends swear by this line of products.

Their favorite is the Traveler baby sleeper. It collapses to the size of a tent, and it’s awesome for giving the kid a dark place to sleep. They also have great seats like the MeToo that is lightweight but awesome. With you guys being so outdoorsy and travel like, these are great items, our friends take their little guy camping and hiking all the time.
